Adrian Mróz, Ph.D.
(Jagiellonian University), classically trained musician from the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan. Currently, assistant at the Department of Aesthetics of the Institute of Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University researching Behavioral Aesthetics within the framework of Bernard Stiegler’s philosophy of art. Secretary of Polskie Towarzystwo Etyki i Filozofii Techniki [the Polish Society of Ethics and the Philosophy of Technology]. Associate editor at the Polish Journal of Aesthetics and technical editor for Kultura i Historia. Translator and technical editor for Medialica. Multimedia Studies in the Humanities. Biography
Adrian Mróz is a Polish-American born in 1988 in Baltimore, MD in the USA who speaks English as a native language, as well as Polish and French. He is an alumni of Eastern Tech High School with a career major in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. In 2005, he enrolled at the Community College of Baltimore Country to study music: particularly Applied Voice, Classical & Popular Guitar as well as Applied Music Studies, including Music Business and the Recording Industry. He also performed in the CCBC Electric Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Prof. Robert Winter. In 2006, he moved to Poznan, Poland to study at the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music, where he studied under the supervision of dr Bartek Marusik. Between 2006 and 2010 he was guitarist for the punk rock band Babayaga Ojo, and has published music on the CD "Siła" (2007) and "Singiel II" (2008). He has been awarded with the grIndie Award for Best New Music in the Independent Artist Music Awards, Number 1 Punk Show for PBS FM in Australia and the Gold Artist Award from RadioIndy.com. His first experience in teaching dates back to 2008, when he started an apprenticeship under the guidance of Rafał Wiśniewski at the Poznańska Ogólnokształcąca Szkoła Muzyczna I stopnia nr 1 im. H. Wieniawskiego. After completing his studies, Adrian worked at the Conservatory of Music in Poznan between 2009 and 2012 as a guitar instructor, and later advanced the the position of member of the board and coordinator of popular music education, all while preparing students for the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London, UK) exams. In 2010, Adrian signed a deal with Simon Pitt (CEO) of RSL Awards (alias: rockschool), and worked for five years as the representative and coordinator of popular music exams in Poland, and supervised the translation of the 2006-2012 syllabus for Guitar, Bass, and Drums. Later, in 2011, he earned vocational qualification by passing State exams for the professions of Assistant Sound Operator, Technical Assistant Sound Engineer, Audio Mixer, Sound Editor, and his certificate was issued by Okręgowa Komisja Egzaminacyjna w Poznaniu.
In 2012, he would also be issued by the Wielkopolski Kuratorium Oświaty the qualifications as an Educator of recreational activities for school children and youth. Accordingly, he would pursue work as a counselor specialised in music education for Vogue Travel for the summers of 2012 and 2013, especially for Rock Camps, where he would teach young musicians to perform a show in under 12 days. Later, he worked as an English language tutor abroad in Ukraine for Boyar Camp in 2016, and in 2017 he volunteered to work for Angloville. He continues work as a translator, proofreader, and ESL teacher.
During this same time, he started to study philosophy at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. He joined a student research group in 2015 lead by dr hab. Piotr Przybysz. The title of the research project was "The Mind in the Environment of Artificial Intelligence: The Influence of Digital Technologies on Mental Functions". He wrote his thesis on behavioral aesthetics titled "The Axiology of Music: Systemic Irrationality in Judging the Performance of Music" under the supervision of dr Anna Ziółkowska-Juś. In 2015, he moved to Krakow, where he wrote his master's thesis under the supervision of dr hab. Krzysztof Guczalski on music, titled "The Significance of Music with Reference to Plato and the Notion of 'Pharmakon' ". Meanwhile, he started the Philosophy of Technology Research Group of the Jagiellonian University's Students Circle on Nov. 17, 2015, and had been the chair until graduating, when he passed on the baton to Mariusz Markiewicz. However, the student group still operates, and has been expanded with the leadership of Mariusz Markiewicz into the Polish Society of Ethics and the Philosophy of Technology and officially registered on December 4, 2019. Within this group, he has taken the alias abenteuerzeit, and is an Academia Electronica Teacher, and had managed international meetings within the Science Beyond Borders program. In 2017, he started his doctoral studies and performing with the band SmoGGG. His dissertation advisor is Sidey Myoo [alias: prof. dr hab. Michał Ostrowicki]. The title of Adrian's dissertation is "Behavioural Aesthetics: The Art of Thought Control, Regulating Conduct and Constituting Agency in the Philosophy of Bernard Stiegler". He became an editor at scientific journals on aeshtetics, art and the humanities: 1) The Polish Journal of Aesthetics (aka Estetyka i Krytyka 2001-2017), 2) Kultura i Historia, and 3) Medialica. He has also become a member of the Polish Society of Aesthetics in 2019. He is part of the Roman Ingarden Digital Archive, since 2018. Adrian is currently enrolled as a student of the 2019/2020 seminar held by Bernard Stiegler. On Dec. 5, 2019, he published the album Décompositions. Variations Sans Thème. Lo Fi Série, Vol 1.
